Tragic Death of 8-Year-Old Boy Suspected to have died as a Result of Poisoned Palm Wine

In a heartbreaking incident that occurred in Awutu Bantama, located in the Awutu Senya West District of the Central Region, an eight-year-old boy lost his life after consuming a substance believed to be palm wine. The young boy, known as Agya Kwao, tragically passed away after ingesting the substance obtained from a palm wine tapper’s farm. The palm wine tapper, who allegedly suspected theft from his farm, is believed to have poisoned the beverage.

Mercy Acquah, the aunt of the deceased, recounted the distressing events leading to Agya Kwao’s demise. She stated that she received a distressing call urging her to come and see her nephew. Upon arriving at the scene, she discovered the boy in a state of intoxication and unconsciousness. In a race against time, they rushed him to the hospital, where medical professionals fought valiantly to save his life. Tragically, despite their best efforts, the young boy succumbed to the effects of the poison a few hours later. The police were promptly contacted, and a sample of the substance was obtained and analyzed, confirming its poisonous nature.

In a significant development, the Awutu Bereku Police Command has apprehended the palm wine tapper suspected of perpetrating this heinous act. The suspect is currently in custody, assisting the authorities with their ongoing investigation into the tragic incident.

The loss of Agya Kwao’s life has sent shockwaves through the community, leaving family, friends, and neighbors devastated.
