Sarkodie, born Michael Owusu Addo, is a Ghanaian rapper and songwriter who has made a significant impact in the music industry not only in Ghana but across Africa and beyond. He was born on July 10, 1985, in Tema, a coastal town in Ghana.
Sarkodie began his music career in 2007 after he recorded his first single “Baby” which gained popularity in Ghana. He then released his debut album “Makye” in 2009, which featured hit tracks such as “Push”, “Baby” and “Chat with You”. His second album “Rapperholic” was released in 2012 and was a massive commercial success in Ghana. The album contained popular songs like “You Go Kill Me” and “Onyame Ehyira”.
Sarkodie has since released several other albums and singles, collaborating with both local and international artists. He is known for his unique rap style which blends English and local Ghanaian dialects such as Twi, Fante and Ga. His lyrics often address social and political issues, and he is regarded as one of the most influential and talented rappers in Africa.
