In a controversial move that has sparked outrage among conservative circles, Saudi Arabia recently opened its first alcohol store in Riyadh, prompting a passionate response from a Nigerian Muslim man.
Expressing his vehement opposition to the development, the man denounced the decision, labeling it as “disgraceful” and warning against the purported transformation of Saudi Arabia into a hub akin to Las Vegas.
His remarks shed light on the deep-seated concerns among traditionalists regarding the encroachment of Western values into the heart of the conservative kingdom.
“This is disgraceful,” the Nigerian man asserted. “They’re slowly turning Saudi Arabia into Las Vegas and it’s making me mad.
At the rate they’re going, very soon they’ll legalize prostitution and same-sex marriage in our most sacred city.”
The opening of the alcohol store marks a significant departure from the longstanding prohibition of alcohol in Saudi Arabia, a country where the consumption and sale of alcoholic beverages have been strictly prohibited in accordance with Islamic law.

While the move has been lauded by some as a step towards modernization and economic diversification, others view it as a betrayal of the country’s Islamic values and cultural heritage.
Critics fear that such liberalization measures could pave the way for further social and moral shifts, undermining the conservative fabric of Saudi society.
