Raila Odinga questions Kenya government over their keen interest to lead a peacekeeping mission on behalf of Haiti
The leader of the opposition and the former prime minister for Kenya, Raila amolo Odinga demands explanation from the government for deciding to lead the charge for peace to be restored in Haiti.
On 4th October 2023, Mr Raila Odinga in an interview a local television station iterated the fact that, it’s wasn’t in the interest of the country for government to plan in deploying police men to Haiti to combat gang violence hence, it’s a “wrong move”, He stated.
“Before you even come to Africa, Haiti is at the doorstep of the united states which is the most powerful nation in the world. What is it that is so unique about Kenya that it’s been chosen to lead the multinational force in Haiti?” Raila said.
Mr Raila Odinga is of the view that, the situation in Haiti can’t be sorted out through the leadership of the Kenyan police men however, it’s rather endangering their lives.
“When coffin starts arriving here, that’s when we shall regret. Haiti is dangerous and there’s a possibility our police will encounter problems there” Odinga stated.
The United Nations security council approved the deployment for a year with a review after nine months on the 2nd October, 2023.
Kenya’s president, William Ruto has given his word “not to fail the people of Haiti”.
Meanwhile, most people have criticize government taking into consideration, the lack of requisite resources hence, causing the inability of the Kenyan police men delivering Haiti from their current situation.
