Raheem Sterling’s possible move to Aston Villa and Jarrad Branthwaite’s rumored switch to Liverpool.
Branthwaite to Anfield?
The path from Everton to Liverpool is not a common one, but Jarrad Branthwaite might just break the trend. Liverpool has reportedly made a bid of £63 million, with an additional £7 million in add-ons, to secure the young center-back from their Merseyside rivals. Everton fans, still haunted by memories of losing stars like Wayne Rooney and John Stones too early, might hope that the club’s new ownership under John Textor will put a halt to this potential transfer.
Branthwaite’s potential move to Liverpool comes after Manchester United’s interest waned following their acquisition of Matthijs de Ligt. United, however, remain active in the market, closing in on a season-long loan deal for PSG’s Manuel Ugarte, with an obligation to buy. Meanwhile, Jadon Sancho seems set for a loan spell at Barcelona.
Sterling to Villa?
Raheem Sterling’s future at Chelsea appears uncertain, and Aston Villa is reportedly interested in bringing the winger to Villa Park. Chelsea’s overcrowded squad might prompt a deal, but the financial aspect could be tricky. Villa is keen on a bargain, and Chelsea may have to subsidize part of Sterling’s wages to facilitate the transfer. The prospect of Sterling taking a wage cut looms large, similar to Romelu Lukaku, who is edging closer to a move to Napoli after a £25.5 million bid was rejected.
In addition to Sterling, Aston Villa has been linked with Atlético Madrid’s striker Samu Omorodion, a player previously on Chelsea’s radar.
Other Transfer Tidbits
• Aaron Ramsdale might be on the move as well, with Southampton reportedly interested in the Arsenal goalkeeper. With Gavin Bazunu out until 2025 and Alex McCarthy nearing the end of his career, Ramsdale could seek first-team opportunities away from the Emirates.
• Jordan Ayew is set to leave Crystal Palace and could join Leicester City as Jamie Vardy’s backup, while Eddie Nketiah is close to sealing a move to Nottingham Forest. Atalanta’s Ademola Lookman, who impressed in last season’s Europa League final, has been tipped as Nketiah’s replacement.
• Wilfried Zaha, currently at Galatasaray, has been linked with a return to the Premier League, with Wolves and his former club Crystal Palace mentioned as possible destinations.
