Abena Osei-Asare share her thought over the expenditure reduction

The member of Parliament for Atiwa east constituency and the deputy minister of finance has justified the GH¢20 billion reduction in expenditure considering the current state of the country.

The sector minister for finance, Ken Ofori-Atta when presenting the mid year budget review in parliament indicated a downward proposal revision of appropriation from a GH¢227.7 billion ad presented and approved by parliament in November,2022 to GH¢206 billion in accordance with Regulation 24 sub-regulation 3 of the financial management Act Regulations 2019(L.I 2378).

“We will therefore, undertake a downward review of expenditures to align with the underperformance of some of our revenue handles. This will impact the Annual Budget Funding Amount and thus reduce the 2023 appropriation”. Ken Ofori-Atta added.

The deputy minister of finance, Abena Osei-Asare in a response to a journalist with respect to whether the GH¢20 billion cut was enough,

“When you look at the year’s goods and services, it’s less than Gh¢10 billion. The whole MMDA’s, their goods and services for the financial year is less than GH¢20 billion”.

“So, if you ask that, Is Gh¢20 billion enough? It’s way more than enough looking at the situation in which we find ourselves”.

Hon Abena Osei-Asare further iterated that:

“You cannot contract the economy to a certain extent. When you do that, nothing happens, nothing goes on”.
