The manager for Arsenal football club, Mikel Arteta has defended his position of sidelining his first choice goalkeeper, Aaron Ramsdale for his new signee, David Raya.
Aaron Ramsdale has always been the first choice safe per of hands throughout last season which helped the club in securing a UEFA champions league spot and loosing out closely to Manchester city in winning the English premier league.
However, Arsenal football club recruited the services of David Raya from Brentford, who was supposed to be the second choice goalkeeper during the summer transfer window.
David Raya has been able to grab the opportunity of keeping two clean sheets in the last two outings of Arsenal, both in the game against Everton in the Premiership and thier first UCL group game against PSV Eindhoven.
Mikel Arteta has expressed his thoughts on why he chose to bring in Raya while Ramsdale was available.
“Difficult with every player but he has been very, very supportive and really, really good around the place” Mikel Arteta said.
Arteta also iterated the fact that he has always wanted some positive competition in his team among players who share similar positions on the field.
“That is what i expect from every single player as when you are on the field, there is someone else who is not” Arteta added.
